Foreword

Marijan Kavran
President of the Management Board Croatian Competitiveness Cluster for Wood Processing

Wood processing is one of the Republic of Croatia’s strategic sectors. 48% of Croatia’s territory is covered by woods which are managed in a sustainable and ecological manner for centuries. Wood as a raw material represents a very powerful resource which is underrated and insufficiently valorised by many. Through EU accession we become a part of a much wider product market, but also of necessary knowledge. Transfer of new technological solutions and enhancement of personnel potential still represent a great development challenge. A competitiveness cluster was chosen as a model which can provide numerous development solutions through a longer time period.

The members of competitiveness cluster wish to implement new knowledge based development solutions and fortify the market position of wood processing sector through development of new „smart“ products, which will ensure competitiveness on global market. Therefore we would like to take this opportunity and invite all interested parties, companies, associations, institutions, media and others to join our competitiveness cluster to reach top quality solutions through joint efforts, and actively support further development and improvement of wood processing sector which even today creates high added value for wood raw material, in 1:7 relation, and creates 8% of Croatian export.
