Creative and Cultural Industry

The creative and cultural industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the European Union, and Croatia is also growing stronger in this industry. The creative industry encompasses a number of activities – music, publishing, media, design, architecture, photography, as well as the film and video game industries.

In recent years, Croatia has become an increasingly common location for filming world-famous series and movies such as Game of Thrones, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Robin Hood: Origins, Terror and McMafia, just to name a few. That is why the magazine fDi Intelligence, a specialist division of the Financial Times, gave Croatia in 2017 a special award as a film destination.

Additionally, world-famous video games such as Serious Sam, The Talos Principle, Unity of Command, Captain Brawe, just to name a few, have been produced in Croatia, and the Gaming Industry Hub “Letter” in Novska and Incubator of Creative Industries “IKI” in Koprivnica provide a place to bring together entrepreneurs and start-ups from this industry.

There are about 10,000 companies operating in this sector, employing some 25,000 people, with an average salary of € 1,126.
